Fibonacci sequence in the New Age mural at Uhuburg
The New Age mural, by Juniper Rose
History and Overview
The New Age Movement encompasses diverse religious and spiritual beliefs drawn from Buddhism, Taoism, psychology, paganism, clairvoyance, and magic. While its origins are debated—some attribute its beginnings to the United Kingdom in the 1970s, while others suggest it gained momentum in the United States later—it became widespread in the U.S. by the 1980s. Participants seek self-improvement, peace, and self-actualization, selecting beliefs and practices that resonate with them.

Example of New Age Beliefs
-
Spiritual and natural healing, such as practices found in Tai Chi and Reiki, emphasizes holistic well-being and the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit.
-
The sacredness of nature and recognition of natural patterns, as observed in Paganism and reflected in phenomena like the Fibonacci Sequence, highlight reverence for the Earth and its inherent wisdom.
-
The participation in psychotherapeutic interventions underscores the importance of psychological exploration and personal growth in the New Age Movement.
-
Clairvoyance, mysticism, and psychic power are beliefs that encompass abilities to perceive information beyond the ordinary senses, often associated with spiritual insights and intuitive understanding.
-
Fate, which may be revealed through practices like Tarot readings, psychic consultations, and astrology, suggests that individuals' destinies are influenced by cosmic forces and patterns.
-
Beliefs in extraterrestrial beings and cosmos religions, such as astrology, reflect notions of interconnectedness with the wider universe and the potential for spiritual growth beyond Earthly confines.

What is the Fibonacci Sequence?
The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two preceding ones, usually starting with 0 and 1. The sequence begins as 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, and so on. It is named after the Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, known as Fibonacci, who introduced the sequence to the Western world in his 1202 book "Liber Abaci." The Fibonacci sequence appears in various natural phenomena, such as the arrangement of leaves on a stem, the branching of trees, and the patterns of certain flowers and shells.

Horoscopes
Horoscopes are predictions or insights based on the positions of the stars and planets at the time of a person's birth. Rooted in astrology, horoscopes are typically linked to the 12 zodiac signs, which correspond to specific periods of the year (e.g., Aries, Taurus, Gemini). Each sign is believed to influence personality traits, behaviors, and life events. Horoscopes are often used for guidance in daily life, offering advice on love, career, health, and other aspects. Though popular in modern culture, the accuracy and scientific basis of horoscopes are widely debated.

Horoscopes are closely connected to New Age thinking, a spiritual and philosophical movement that gained popularity in the late 20th century. New Age thinking emphasizes personal spirituality, holistic health, and the belief in a universal energy that connects all life. This movement often incorporates elements from various spiritual and mystical traditions, including astrology, which is where horoscopes come into play.
